School of Sanctuary

School of Santuary

Schools of Sanctuary is a new committee made up of 13 children from 3rd–6th Class, established in March 2026. Each child completed an application form and was selected by a group of teachers. Our committee is committed to ensuring that all pupils feel welcome, safe, and included in our school community.

We visited each class to explain our role: helping everyone understand what seeking sanctuary means and promoting kindness, inclusion, and respect throughout our school. We also hope to share our learning with other schools in the future. As part of this work, we invited all pupils and staff to sign a pledge committing to making our school a safe and welcoming place for everyone and to saying no to racism.

In March 2026, we visited Woodbrook College to celebrate their first Intercultural Day. We had the opportunity to try foods from different cultures and learn more about traditions and customs from around the world. It was a wonderful and memorable experience.

We also carried out a survey to learn more about the diversity within our own school community. We discovered that 42 nationalities and 37 languages are represented in our school, which is something we are very proud of. Using this information, we are now creating a new notice board to ensure everyone feels represented. We are designing flags for each country and hope to display the word “welcome” in the many languages spoken by children in our school.
